From reading the title I assumed that the male would have been the focus, but the woman demands almost my full attention as she is the brightest part of the piece. And with her as focus I find the colour and shading used appropriate and constructive. This is what I got - The man's in the dark of his afternoon, he's not having a particularly good day. His study is beautiful, painted with warm colours. The maid comes in to serve him tea and baked goods and brightens his day. Even though he doesn't lift his head to show this, I feel it from the atmosphere of the image, which is warm, friendly, and comfortable. She is a very kind and strong person, always polite and smiling because she's happy with where she is and what she does, and he's happy she's there.
I am glad to see what you read from my piece, cuz that was exactly my story for the piece. I mean I like my artwork viewers to feel their own story from my pieces, but it's also satisfying to hear my intention went through right to some people. thank you!
I never thought about it, actually. I am working on lighting technique on my pieces right now, so this pieces is kinda like experiment. as far as I know at this moment, the window lit here helped focusing on what was my main subject was.
